Hi, I have a holiday villa in Spain and want to add air conditioning. I am trying to find out if the maximum pipe lengths shown in various Split Unit technical data is the most the unit is designed to operate with the pre-installed refrigerant. If I want to extend the pipe can I do so and just add more refrigerant? I need to install units on to pre-installed pipe that looks to be approx 30m from the evaporator to the condenser unit. Any advice would be much appreciated so I can get it done and cool down a bit! Thanks

Depending on the size of the system you require, or if part of a multi, lots of equipment can handle a 30m pipe run.

What size of unit/sort of unit or you looking for?

Cheers

Firstly, thanks for your reply.

I have three pre-installed pipe runs, each of around 30m with approximatlely 4m rise from condenser to evaporator. Two are for bedrooms approx 3x4m and the other is for the open plan living / dining / kitchen area about 9m x 4m .

Cheers

Due to the high ambient temperatures in Spain coupled with the higher RH I would say 2 x 3.5kW on the 2 bedrooms, 2.5kW might be sufficient however for the cost difference between the models it would be more prudent to upscale, especially using inverter technology.

Then the open plan area, would realistically require 2 systems due to the area involved and air distribution from split air conditioning systems.

I would be thinking along the lines of a multi unit, however some of the top brands, such as Daikin have a maximum solitary fan coil run of 25m, your height differential would pose no problem, so you would be better opting for single units.

The open plan area would ideally require 2 x 5kW systems.

Are you looking to purchase here and take abroad to be fitted or have a local contractor fit it for you?
