my rain water system goes down the drain. infact it goes down the same drain that my washing machine, dishwasher, bath and sink goes down.
so if the answer to my question is "NO".........then could anyone tell me why? cheers

let me just add a couple of points here everybody. firstly thank you so much for all your replies.....however........
i live in the UK.....i live in the city and my nearest river is probably about 5 miles away (so believe me when i say this) so the chances of anything i flush or drain away going there are slim to say the least........
my house was built 110 years ago so i don't need to call a plumber straight away....
in the UK nothing flows into anything without being treated through some sort of plant to clean it......we are not allowed to just pump anything we want into a fresh river........the thought of any country allowing this type of action is mind blowing..........
AND FINALLY............my shower water is going down the same grid hole no matter what i do.......the question i wanted answering was..........DO I HAVE TO PIPE IT IN OR CAN I SEND IT DOWN MY GUTTER (it all ends up in the same place anyhow)........wow that was hard work pmsl
